Targeted recruitment focuses on African-American volunteers
Texas CASA, in partnership with CASA programs in the northern region, is launching a statewide targeted effort on Feb. 15 in Dallas to recruit more African-American volunteers.
More than 30% of children in foster care are African-American yet they represent only 12% of the general population. Statewide, just 8 percent of CASA volunteers are African-American. Children relate best to adults who look like them and are familiar with their culture.
As part of our commitment to quality advocacy, Texas CASA is developing resources to help local programs recruit volunteers from African-American and Hispanic communities. The Feb. 15 event at the African American Museum, 3536 Grand Ave. in Dallas, begins with a press conference at 10 a.m. and is followed by a reception. Please join us and wear blue!
