The Tonal Connectedness Initiative
David Arredondo, MD, Founder, The Children's Center, Menlo Park, CA
Beyond his work as a psychiatrist for children, adolescents and families, Dr. Arredondo focused on effective models of service delivery for disenfranchised and underserved children and families facing multiple adversities. A primary focus was be on early childhood brain development, the effects of trauma, and current thinking about children’s connectedness to practitioners in multiple disciplines. His presentation to the CASA audience was an overview of these important concepts and a practice improvement model – The Tonal Connectedness Initiative which is child and family friendly, culturally competent, strength based, and non-stigmatizing.

Youth Permanency Toolkit

Texas CASA is pleased to offer the Youth Permanency Toolkit, which is an important resource for working with older youth in the child welfare system.
The Youth Permanency Toolkit will provide straightforward information about the needs of older youth in care and offer effective strategies for meeting those needs. Older youth in care have often been in the system for a long time. Most are in the Permanent Managing Conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Many of their permanency plans do not include adoption or relative placement. Their cases lose a sense of urgency and yet time marches on. Download the PDF.
